June 26, 2009: The Gambia
Mr. Ebrima and his daughter Fatou joined us today to tell us about what it's like to grow up in The Gambia. We made fans with sticks and strings, played a game called Kepeti Kepetiya, tasted coconut candy and ginger water, and finished our scrapbooks. What a great week we've had, learning about the world!

June 25, 2009: Iraq
We had three special guests with us today! Marwan, Medoza, and Aritoza talked about growing up in Iraq and moving to Lancaster. We created tile coasters, played a game with knucklebones and another called dama, tasted a delicious treat called klicha (made by Medoza and Aritoza's mother), drank rose-flavored water, and heard a popular folktale from that part of the world.
We also had a visit from Blue Ridge Cable Channel 11 and Fox 43 News.

June 24, 2009: Poland
Today we visited Poland with our special guest Miss Dominique. She showed us photos and told us about what it's like to grow up in Poland. We made cut-paper art projects, played a jumping game, raced bottle caps, tasted Polish cookies, and heard a folktale about a dragon.

June 23, 2009: El Salvador
Today's guest, Miss Daisy, told us about El Salvador where she was born and grew up. We decorated keychain boxes in a style that is typical of El Salvador. We played a group game called A La Vibora, and tasted pupusas, cortido, refried beans, and cola champagne. ¡Delicioso!

Monday, June 22: Nepal
Today we kicked off Camp with a visit to Nepal! Our special guests--Devi, Indira, Anish, and Carol--told us about their country and culture, we made and played a board game (Tigers and Goats), and played a running game called Kabaddi. We tasted delicious momo, roti, and tea. We ended our time together by adding our memories to a scrapbook.

Coconut candy
Grate the meat of one coconut. Place two cups of sugar in a saucepan and stir on medium heat. When the sugar begins to crystalize, add the grated coconut. Stir continuously for about 10 minutes. Turn off the heat and scoop spoonfuls onto wax paper. Cool and enjoy!
Ginger drink
Peel and grate ginger root. Soak the grated ginger in water for a few minutes. Strain. To the concentrate, add ice, water, and sugar to taste. (A little bit of ginger goes a long way!)
